I’m still off doing that wacky Ph.D application thing, but I wanted to throw this out there.

It’s not all raids.

Every now and then, it does help to kick back, relax and give out some money for nothing. At least once a month a run a guild event that’s got nothing to do with a raid, and gives out at least as much money if not more. I thought I would share these events because it’s cute and because you really want to spend time with your internet friends and not just advance your character and bounce to a better server…right?

First things first, money or prizes can come from the guild bank or from a personal stash. The set up of your guild depends on how much you want to offer. I’ve seen guilds give away mechanohogs and those nifty 20k gold mammoths. I’m not quite there yet. I give out a thousand gold in cash money to first, second, and third and then probably rare pets because we seem to like those. Give away anything, get creative. Hell, give away your officer team for a night of whatever heroics the winner wants. Give them the ability to take an under geared toon to a raid you’ve got on steamroll.

Tonight, there were many guild members of mine who arrived to the raid entrance completely smashed.  I’m not talking about their in-game characters either; My members came to raid drunk off their asses and slurring in vent.  Now, throughout my years of playing as dependently with others as in WoW, never once have I been part of such an event.  No organization, rowdy attitudes, and complete disregard for any common raiding practices.

Some Guild Masters would perhaps be loud and arrogant in this situation, some more refined and on the quiet side.  I, however, was thrilled and delighted to meet my members in this state of mind.  Why would a guild allow their members to show up for a raid drunk?  Only for one reason-

Struggling with the woes of a low guild budget?  Has the only thing to come out of your vault recently nothing more than moths and spiderwebs?  Oh my, it sounds like you have welfare-capable guild bank funds.  It would be fantastic if I could offer the super-secret hint into endless pools of gold coins, but I only keep that for myself (and trust me, they are not that fun to swim in after all).  I will, however, shed some light into my most recent gold increasing scheme…. and it comes at the cost of my members to the tune of THOUSANDS of gold!

So come home from work tonight to an unmotivated guild.  I’ve got a 12-pack in one arm, and some caffeine pills in the other, all ready for a full night of boss’ ass-kicking.  I call out for invites, only half the online roster replies, and even then, it’s after a minute or so.

-Hey guys, what’s going on?  Nobody interested in free loot tonight?

“Nah, I think I’m going to take a break tonight and watch a movie.”

“I’ve got to get off soon, have some company.  Sorry.”

“I would, but I’ve got to work early tomorrow.”

/officerchat “Looks like everyone’s a tad fatigued, wouldn’t you say, Sedge?”

/officerchat -Appears so.  I’ve got just the answer to lighten their spirits and have a bit of fun…
